About 20,000 immigrants from Guerrero have been deported from the U.S.

Mexico City.- State Secretary of Migrant Affairs Netzahualcóyotl Bustamante Santín said that 20,000 immigrants from Guerrero have been deported from the United States in 2012.

According to official figures, at least 800,000 people from Guerrero live in the United States, primarily in the city of Chicago and cities in California.

The state Congress presented a report today on the voting preferences of Mexican nationals living in the United States.

The study was sponsored by the United Nation’s Development Program and the Citizens’ Initiative for the Promotion of Culture non-governmental organization.

Bustamante Santín said that the study will give officials insight into migrants’ political views, assess the effectiveness of absentee ballot voting and evaluate advances in migrants’ political rights.

Secretary Bustamante Santín noted that the economic crisis in the United States has caused immigration rates to drop and there have been 10,000 fewer deportations this year to date.
